CRIVGrams CRIV is specifically charged to "facilitate communications between information vendors and the members of the Association ... in matters relating to provision of information in any format," as well as "foster[ing] a cooperative working relationship between librarians and information vendors." (AALL Directory and Handbook, 1999 - 2000, p. 420.) If librarians raise concerns with publishers about specific practices that are likely to affect many other librarians around the country, it is certainly true that those publishers should be responsible for directly alerting their customers to their practices (or problems) and how they are dealing with questions about them. CRIV may issue a CRIVGram after discussing the matter at hand with all parties involved. Occasionally a publisher may request that CRIV post a message on their behalf. CRIV will only do so if the topic concerns content or customer service issues. CRIV will not post messages it determines are promotional in nature. |
